1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down.
2. Open the hood of your S-10 and locate the fan belt. It is a long, black belt that runs between the engine and the radiator fan.
3. Find the fan belt tensioner. This is a metal arm with a bolt that runs through it. It is usually located near the top of the engine, on the driver's side.
4. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt on the fan belt tensioner. This will allow you to move the tensioner arm.
5. Move the tensioner arm to tighten the fan belt. The belt should be tight enough so that it does not slip, but not so tight that it puts excessive strain on the engine.
6. Tighten the bolt on the fan belt tensioner to hold it in place.
7. Start the engine and check to make sure that the fan belt is properly tensioned. The belt should not slip or squeal.
8. If necessary, repeat steps 4-7 to adjust the fan belt tension.
