Note:
Your transmission fluid level should only be checked when the vehicle is fully warmed up and the engine has been running for at least 15 minutes. When checking the fluid level, make sure to do it on a level surface.
1. Open the Hood: Release the hood latch under the instrument panel on the driver’s side, and then lift the hood of your Caravan.
- Locate the transmission dipstick. It should be a long, thin tube with a bright-colored handle, located near the back of the engine compartment on the driver's side.
2. Pull Out and Wipe Dipstick: Pull out the dipstick (it might require a little force), wipe the fluid off the dipstick with a clean cloth, and reinsert it fully into its tube.
- It’s important to reinsert the dipstick firmly before checking the fluid level, as leaving it loosely inserted can provide an inaccurate reading.
3. Pull Out Again: Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level indicated on the dipstick. The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
- If the fluid level is low, you will need to add fluid.
4. Add Fluid If Necessary: If the fluid level is low, you can add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Use a funnel to add the fluid, and be careful not to overfill the transmission.
- Check the fluid level again after adding fluid to ensure that it is correct.
5. Replace Dipstick:
- When the fluid level is correct, reinsert the dipstick fully into the dipstick tube. Tighten the oil cap if you removed it.
6. Lower the Hood: Close the hood of the vehicle securely, and you're all done.
