* Low oil level. The most common reason for the oil light to come on is because the oil level is low. Check the oil level using the dipstick and add oil if necessary.
* Dirty oil. Dirty oil can also cause the oil light to come on. Change the oil and filter if it is dirty.
* Oil sensor problem. The oil sensor may be defective. If the oil level is correct and the oil is clean, then the oil sensor may be the problem. You can test the oil sensor by disconnecting it and seeing if the oil light goes off. If the oil light goes off, then the oil sensor is defective and needs to be replaced.
* Oil pump problem. The oil pump may be defective. If the oil level is correct, the oil is clean, and the oil sensor is working properly, then the oil pump may be the problem. You can test the oil pump by removing the oil filter cover and looking for oil flow. If there is no oil flow, then the oil pump is defective and needs to be replaced.
