* Low brake fluid: This is the most common cause. Check your brake fluid reservoir (usually a clear plastic container) and add fluid if it's low. However, adding fluid is only a temporary fix; you still need to find and address the underlying reason for the fluid loss. A leak in a brake line, wheel cylinder, or master cylinder is likely.
* Parking brake engaged: Make sure your parking brake is fully released.
* Brake system failure: This could be a problem with the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, calipers, brake lines, or other components of the braking system. A leak, a broken line, or a failed component can cause the light to illuminate.
* Brake light bulb failure: While less likely to trigger a red warning light in most vehicles, some older systems might. Check all your brake lights to make sure they are working.
Do not drive the Bronco if the red brake warning light is on. Driving with a malfunctioning braking system is extremely dangerous. Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible to diagnose and repair the problem. Ignoring the light could lead to brake failure and a serious accident.
