Why does 2 stoke mower only run with choke on?

There could be a few reasons why your 2-stroke mower is only running with the choke on:

1. Faulty Choke: The choke is a device that helps to start a 2-stroke engine by allowing more fuel to enter the engine. If the choke is not functioning properly or is not set correctly, the engine may not be getting enough fuel and may require the choke to be on to keep running.

2. Carburetor Issues: The carburetor is responsible for mixing air and fuel in the correct ratio before it enters the engine. If the carburetor is not adjusted correctly, it may be causing the engine to run too lean (not enough fuel) and require the choke to be on to richen the mixture and keep it running.

3. Air Filter Clogged: A dirty or clogged air filter can restrict the flow of air into the engine, leading to a lean fuel mixture and difficulty starting. When you engage the choke, it bypasses the air filter, allowing more fuel into the engine and making it easier to start.

4. Fuel Delivery Issues: There may be a problem with the fuel delivery system, such as a clogged fuel line or a faulty fuel pump, preventing the engine from getting enough fuel. Engaging the choke can temporarily overcome this problem by providing extra fuel.

To resolve the issue, you can try the following:

1. Check the choke mechanism and make sure it is functioning properly and is set correctly.

2. Inspect the carburetor and make sure it is clean and free of debris. Check the settings and adjust them if necessary.

3. Clean or replace the air filter if it is clogged.

4. Inspect the fuel system for any blockages or leaks and make sure the fuel pump is working properly.

If the problem persists, it is recommended to take the mower to a qualified repair technician for further diagnosis and repair.
