On a 76 Datsun 620 pickup overhead cam how do you find the correct position for camshaft gear after installing new chain?

1. Position the crankshaft. Align the crankshaft timing mark with the "0" mark on the timing belt cover. This will ensure that the piston in the first cylinder is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke.

2. Install the camshaft gear. Place the camshaft gear on the camshaft and align the timing mark on the gear with the mark on the camshaft bearing cap.

3. Install the timing chain. Wrap the timing chain around the camshaft gear and the crankshaft sprocket. Make sure that the chain is properly seated in the teeth of both gears.

4. Tension the timing chain. Use a timing chain tensioner to tension the chain until it has about 1/2 inch of play between the camshaft gear and the crankshaft sprocket.

5. Reinstall the timing belt cover. Replace the timing belt cover and secure it with the bolts.
