Note: This procedure requires removing the fuel tank and should be performed in a well-ventilated area.
1. Relieve fuel system pressure:
- Turn the key to "ON" (do not start the engine) and let it sit for a few seconds to pressurize the fuel system.
- Turn the key to "OFF".
- Press the fuel pressure release valve on the fuel injector rail to relieve the pressure.
2. Remove the rear seat:
- Pull up on the front of the rear seat cushion to unhook it from the retaining clips.
- Lift the front of the seat cushion and remove it from the vehicle.
- Remove the two bolts holding the rear seatback to the floor.
- Fold down the rear seatback to access the fuel tank.
3. Remove the fuel tank:
- Disconnect the fuel line and electrical connector from the fuel tank.
- Loosen the fuel tank mounting strap bolts.
- Lower the fuel tank and remove it from the vehicle.
4. Remove the fuel pump assembly:
- Remove the lock ring that secures the fuel pump assembly to the fuel tank.
- Pull the fuel pump assembly out of the fuel tank.
5. Install the new fuel pump assembly:
- Insert the new fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank.
- Replace the lock ring and tighten it securely.
6. Reinstall the fuel tank:
- Raise the fuel tank into position and secure it with the mounting strap bolts.
- Reconnect the fuel line and electrical connector.
7. Test the fuel system:
- Turn the key to "ON" and let the fuel system pressurize for a few seconds.
- Start the engine and verify that there are no leaks or unusual noises.
8. Reinstall the rear seat:
- Secure the rear seatback with the two bolts.
- Lift the rear seat cushion into position and hook it into the retaining clips.
