Would a mk2 golf gti engine fit mk3 golf?

The MK2 8v engine will fit but with some modifications and custom fabrication of some brackets and mounts. The MK2 16v will not fit as the MK3 bay is narrower and the block is wider due to the 2 extra cylinders. Would need to remove 4wd system if doing the swap.
