How do you change a brake light on 1993 Volvo 240?

Materials Required:

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flat head screwdriver

- New brake light assemblies (2)

- Socket wrench set

- 10 mm socket

Instructions:

Step 1: Open the trunk.

You can do this by inserting the key into the trunk lock and turning it counterclockwise. Once the trunk lid lifts up, you should remove the liner.

Step 2: Locate the brake light assemblies.

The brake light assemblies are located on each side of the trunk, behind the taillights.

Step 3: Remove the old brake light assemblies.

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two screws that hold each brake light assembly in place. Once the screws are removed, you can pull the brake light assemblies straight out of the car.

Step 4: Disconnect the electrical connectors.

There is one electrical connector for each brake light assembly. To disconnect the connectors, press the release tab and pull them apart.

Step 5: Remove the taillights.

Using a flathead screwdriver, pry the gasket around the taillight lenses off. There will be two plastic tabs under the gasket. You will need to release the tabs, and you can pull the taillight out. Take out the old brake light bulb by applying slight force.

Step 6: Install the new brake light assemblies.

To install the new brake light assemblies, simply insert them into the holes in the trunk lid and replace the screws that you removed in Step 3.

Step 7: Reconnect the electrical connectors.

To reconnect the electrical connectors, simply push them together until they click into place.

Step 8: Test the brake lights.

To test the brake lights, turn on the parking lights or headlights. Then, press the brake pedal. The brake lights should both come on.

Step 9: Close the trunk.

Place the taillight back in place, press the gasket, and lock both plastic tabs. Replace the trunk lid liner and close the trunk.
