These codes provide specific information about the detected malfunction. Then, you can research the codes online or consult a repair manual to understand the problem.
* Professional Mechanic: A mechanic has the tools and expertise to quickly diagnose the problem and provide a solution. This is especially recommended if you are not comfortable working on your vehicle.
2. Repair the Problem: Once you know the cause of the MIL, fix the problem. This could range from a loose gas cap to a more serious issue requiring parts replacement.
3. Clear the Code (After Repair): *Only after* successfully repairing the issue, you can clear the code. There are several ways to do this:
