Even if you've removed screws, there are likely several other components holding the airbag in place, including:
* Electrical connectors: The airbag has a wiring harness connected to it. These connectors often require careful disconnection to avoid damaging the wires or the connector itself.
* Clips or retainers: Beyond the screws, there are almost certainly plastic clips or other retaining mechanisms that secure the airbag module to the steering wheel. These are usually hidden and require careful manipulation to release. Forcing them can break them, leaving you with a more difficult repair.
* Spring-loaded mechanisms: Some airbag systems incorporate spring-loaded mechanisms which require specific procedures to release safely.
Do not attempt to force the airbag out. You risk damaging the airbag module, the steering wheel, or injuring yourself. Consult a repair manual specific to your 2009 Ford Focus or take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for airbag removal and replacement. Improper handling could lead to expensive repairs, or worse.
