- Socket set
- 3/8 drive ratchet
- 1/2" breaker bar
- pry bar
- jack and jack stands
- new CV half-shaft assembly
Instructions:
1. Raise the vehicle and support.
2. Remove the damaged half-shaft axle bolt.
3. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut that holds the half-shaft in place.
4. Loosen the castle nut (this may require the use of a breaker bar).
5. Remove the hub nut, washer and bearing, then gently pry the hub/bearing assembly away from the spindle of the vehicle
6. Now you can slide the CV axle out from the wheel hub and transmission.
7. Carefully remove the axle from the vehicle, taking care not to damage the axle seal or the wheel bearings.
8. Clean and inspect the axle and the mating surfaces of the transmission and the hub.
8. Install the new half shaft CV assembly. Reverse the removal process.
* NOTE: apply grease to axle splines and threads of retaining nut
9. Re-install the hub nut and washer.
10. Tighten the castle nut and install a new cotter pin.
11. Jack down the vehicle and remove jack stands.
12. Test drive the vehicle to make sure that the half shaft assembly is working properly.
