- Small pair of scissors
- Tweezers
- Super glue or specialty fabric glue
- Sandpaper
- Small piece of scrap carpet that closely resembles the original in texture and color
Steps:
1. Prepare the burn area. Allow the glue from the melted carpet to harden. Use the scissors to carefully cut away any frayed edges of carpet around the burn hole, creating a clean, rectangular or oval shape.
2. Trim the patch. Cut a small patch slightly larger than the burn hole from the scrap carpet. Sand the edges of the patch lightly so they blend smoothly when applied to the damaged carpet.
3. Apply glue. Place a thin layer of glue around the edges of the burn hole, being careful not to apply too much as it can seep through and discolor the carpet. Align the patch with the hole and press it down firmly, ensuring it is flush with the surrounding carpet. Hold for several minutes until the glue has set.
4. Trim and blend. Use the scissors to carefully trim the edges of the patch to blend seamlessly with the surrounding carpet. You may need to use the sandpaper again for a smooth transition.
Tips:
- Practice on a small piece of scrap carpet first before applying the patch to the damaged carpet.
- Test the glue on a hidden area of the carpet to make sure it does not cause discoloration.
- If the burn hole is large or located in a prominent area, you may want to consider professional repair or carpet replacement to ensure a high-quality finish.
