1. Cross Chain Configuration:
- Connect chains in an "X" shape crossing underneath the trailer tongue's safety chain loops.
- Attach to two separate points on the towing vehicle's frame.
2. Separate Chain Configuration:
- Attach each safety chain to a different point on the towing vehicle's frame.
Recommended Practices:
- Chains should be grade 70 transport chains or equivalent, with a tensile strength of 16,500 lbs or higher.
- Chains must be attached to solid structural parts of the trailer and towing vehicle frames, not to bumpers, hitches, or any removable components.
- Chains must be long enough to reach the ground but not drag.
- Chains should have no visible wear, kinks, or damage.
- Test chain strength regularly and replace if there are any signs of weakening.
