• A new key
• A Phillips-head screwdriver
• A flat-head screwdriver
• A T20 Torx screwdriver
1. Locate the key cylinder on the driver’s side door.
2. Remove the two Phillips-head screws that secure the key cylinder cover.
3. Use the flat-head screwdriver to pry open the key cylinder cover.
4. Locate the small black button on the back of the key cylinder.
5. Use the T20 Torx screwdriver to turn the button counterclockwise.
6. Remove the old key from the cylinder.
7. Insert the new key into the cylinder and turn it clockwise.
8. Replace the key cylinder cover and the two Phillips-head screws.
9. Test the new key to make sure it works.
If you are unable to reset the key yourself, you can take your vehicle to a BMW dealership or a qualified mechanic.
