1. Park your mower on a level surface. Engage the parking brake and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down if it has been running.
2. Locate the oil filter cover. The oil filter cover is usually located on the side of the engine, near the bottom. It is a round, black cap with the words "Oil Filter" stamped on it.
3. Remove the oil filter cover. Use a wrench to loosen the oil filter cover and remove it. Be careful not to spill any oil.
4. Take out the old oil filter. Once you have removed the oil filter cover, you can remove the old oil filter. To do this, simply grasp the old filter and twist counterclockwise until it comes off. Be careful not to spill any oil.
5. Install a new oil filter. Take the new oil filter and screw it onto the oil filter adapter. Hand-tighten the filter until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the filter, as this can damage the filter and the threads on the oil filter adapter.
6. Replace the oil filter cover. Once you have installed the new oil filter, replace the oil filter cover. Tighten the cover with a wrench until it is snug.
7. Start the mower and check for leaks. Start the mower and let it run for a few minutes. Check the oil filter area for leaks. If you see any leaks, stop the mower and fix the problem before continuing.
Here are some additional tips for changing the oil filter on a Craftsman mower:
- Use a high-quality oil filter that is compatible with your mower's engine.
- Change the oil filter every 50 hours of operation or annually.
- Drain the oil before removing the oil filter. This will help to prevent oil from spilling when you remove the filter.
- Dispose of the old oil and oil filter properly.
