- Coolant

Procedure:
1. Preparation:
- Park your Cavalier on level ground and allow the engine to cool down completely.
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid any electrical accidents.
- Wear appropriate safety goggles and clothing.
2. Locate the Thermostat Housing:
- The thermostat housing is usually located near the upper radiator hose connection on the engine block.
3. Drain Coolant:
- Place a drain pan under the radiator and loosen the radiator drain plug or petcock.
- Allow the coolant to drain completely.
4. Remove the Thermostat Housing:
- Use a wrench to loosen and remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing to the engine block.
- Be careful not to drop the bolts into the engine compartment.
5. Remove Old Thermostat:
- Once the thermostat housing is removed, the old thermostat will be visible.
- Gently pry it out of its seat using pliers or your fingers.
6. Clean the Housing:
- Inspect the thermostat housing and remove any dirt or deposits with a clean rag.
7. Install New Thermostat:
- Align the new thermostat correctly in the housing, ensuring the jiggle valve (if present) is facing upward.
- Place the new gasket (if included) over the thermostat.
8. Reattach the Housing:
- Reposition the thermostat housing onto the engine block and secure it with the bolts.
- Tighten the bolts snugly but do not over-tighten.
9. Refill Coolant:
- Remove the radiator cap or expansion tank cap.
- Use the funnel to add coolant until the level reaches the recommended amount indicated in the owner's manual.
10. Test Run:
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to check for any leaks and ensure proper operation of the thermostat.
