Once you have gathered your tools and materials, follow these steps to repair the rear window:
1. Remove the tailgate panel. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the tailgate panel in place. There are 8 screws in total, 4 on each side.
2. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Once the tailgate panel is removed, you will need to disconnect the electrical connectors for the rear window defroster and the third brake light.
3. Remove the old rear window. Use the flat head screwdriver to pry the old rear window out of the tailgate. Be careful not to damage the window frame.
4. Clean the window frame. Use the clean rag and isopropyl alcohol to clean the window frame. Remove all dirt, grease, and rust.
5. Install the window sealant. If you are using butyl tape, simply apply it around the perimeter of the window frame. If you are using urethane adhesive, apply a primer to the window frame and allow it to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. Once the primer is dry, apply the urethane adhesive.
6. Install the new rear window. Carefully place the new rear window into the tailgate frame. Make sure that the window is seated properly and that there are no gaps.
7. Reconnect the electrical connectors. Reconnect the electrical connectors for the rear window defroster and the third brake light.
8. Reinstall the tailgate panel. Replace the screws that you removed in step 1 to reinstall the tailgate panel.
Your 2001 Toyota Sequoia rear window is now repaired!
