_Make sure you mark your camshaft and crankshaft alignment marks before you start taking things apart!_
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
3. Remove the timing belt cover.
4. Set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC). You can do this by inserting a long, thin screwdriver into the spark plug hole of the number one cylinder and turning the engine until the piston is at the highest point.
5. Check the timing marks. The crankshaft timing marks should line up with the timing marks on the oil pump housing.
6. Turn the crankshaft bolt clockwise until all of the slack has taken out of the timing belt.
7. Make a backup mark near the cam and crank alignment mark.
8. Loosen the tensioner and remove the timing belt.
9. Inspect the timing belt for any damage. If it is damaged, you will need to replace it.
10. Align the timing marks and install the new timing belt.
11. Adjust the tensioner. You will need to use a feeler gauge to ensure the tension is correct.
12. Install the timing belt cover.
13. Recheck the timing marks for accuracy.
14. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and start your engine.
