To adjust the alternator belt tension on a 1995 Nissan Sentra XE:

1. Locate the alternator belt, which is on the front of the engine.

2. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts.

3. Pry the alternator away from the engine using a pry bar or other suitable tool.

4. Tighten the alternator mounting bolts.

5. Check the belt tension by pressing down on the belt with your thumb about in the middle between pulleys or use a belt tension gauge. the tension should be within the specifications listed in your vehicle owner's manual, typically 1/2” to 3/4” play with moderate pressure.

6. If necessary, repeat steps 3-5 until you have the desired belt tension.
