How do you change front rotors on a 1997 Honda Accord LX?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Lug wrench

- Socket set

- Torque wrench

- Jack and jack stands

- Pry bar

- C-clamp

- New front rotors

- New brake pads (optional)

Instructions:

1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but do not remove them completely.

3. Raise your car with a jack and place jack stands under the frame. Make sure the jack stands are stable before proceeding.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels.

5. Locate the brake caliper. It is the metal housing that encloses the brake pads and rotor.

6. Remove the caliper bolts. There are two bolts on each caliper.

7. Gently pry the caliper off the rotor. Use a pry bar to gently pry the caliper away from the rotor. Be careful not to damage the brake pads.

8. Remove the old brake pads. They are located inside the caliper.

9. Clean the caliper and the rotor. Use a wire brush to clean any dirt or debris from the caliper and the rotor.

10. Place the new brake pads in the caliper. Make sure the pads are properly seated in the caliper.

11. Reinstall the caliper and the caliper bolts. Tighten the bolts until they are snug.

12. Install the new front rotors. Place the new rotors on the hubs and secure them with the lug nuts.

13. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.

14. Lower your car and remove the jack stands.

15. Test the brakes. Pump the brake pedal a few times to make sure the brakes are working properly.

Note: If you are replacing the front brake pads at the same time as the rotors, you may need to use a C-clamp to compress the brake caliper piston in order to fit the new pads.

Tips:

- Make sure to inspect the brake pads and calipers while you are replacing the rotors. If the pads are worn or the calipers are damaged, you should replace them at the same time.

- If you are not comfortable performing this task yourself, you can take your car to a mechanic to have the front rotors replaced.
