Instructions
1. Prepare the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero for AC work. Park the Montero on a flat, level surface. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Locate the AC refrigerant accumulator. It will be a black cylindrical object mounted near the front of the Montero. Attach a hose from the AC refrigerant recovery system to the accumulator and turn the system on. Once the recovery process has been completed turn the recovery system off and remove its hose from the accumulator.
2. Remove the Montero’s drive belts.
Remove the engine under cover. Locate the three drive belts near the front of the engine. Loosen the tension on the idler pulley by inserting the proper allen wrench into the hole next to the pulley and turning it counter clockwise. This makes it easier to slip off the belts. Slip off the belts and set aside.
3. Remove the air conditioning compressor.
Remove the compressor mounting bracket nuts. Use a 12 mm socket and a ratchet.
Remove the AC compressor from the engine bay. Gently pry it out of place using the flat blade screwdriver if needed. Set aside.
4. Install a new AC compressor.
Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the new AC compressor.
Insert the new compressor by sliding it in place.
Replace the compressor mounting bracket nuts . Tighten the nuts with the 12 mm socket.
Note: Check the fitment prior to tightening the mounting nuts. It should fit snuggly to clear obstructions.
5. Install new compressor belt
Slip on the new compressor belt.
Re-install the drive belt.
Reinstall the engine undercovers
6. Recharge the AC refrigerant.
Attach a hose from the AC recharge system to the port.
Turn on the AC recharge system to add the correct amount of refrigerant.
Turn the engine on and let it run for a few minutes. AC should blow cool air.
7. Test the AC system. Make sure the air coming from the vents is cool and there are no leaks in the system.
