Instructions:
1. Prepare the Vehicle: Park your CR-V on a level surface, turn off the engine, and allow it to cool down. Engage the parking brake to ensure it doesn't move.
2. Locate the Thermostat Housing: The thermostat housing is usually located on the front side of the engine, near the top. It's a round or oval-shaped component with hoses connected to it.
3. Drain the Coolant: Place a large container under the radiator drain plug to catch the coolant. Slowly loosen the drain plug with a wrench, allowing the coolant to drain.
4. Disconnect the Radiator Hose: Once most of the coolant has drained, use a wrench to loosen and remove the clamp securing the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing. Carefully detach the hose from the housing.
5. Remove the Old Thermostat: Use a socket wrench or pliers to remove the bolts or screws holding the thermostat in place. Be careful not to drop any bolts into the engine bay. Gently lift the old thermostat out of the housing.
6. Clean the Thermostat Housing: Use a clean rag to wipe the thermostat housing and ensure there's no dirt, debris, or old gasket material left.
7. Install the New Thermostat: Place the new thermostat inside the housing, making sure it's properly seated. Install the gasket between the thermostat and the housing.
8. Reinstall the Bolts or Screws: Replace and tighten the bolts or screws that secure the thermostat in place.
9. Reconnect the Radiator Hose: Reattach the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing and secure it with the clamp.
10. Refill the Coolant: Slowly pour the recommended amount of coolant into the radiator or coolant reservoir. Consult your owner's manual for the correct amount.
11. Start the Engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to allow the coolant to circulate through the system. Check for any leaks around the thermostat housing.
12. Check the Coolant Level: After the engine has cooled down, check the coolant level again and ensure it's between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks. If necessary, add more coolant.
Note: Some Honda CR-V models may have slight variations in the thermostat replacement procedure, so it's always best to consult your owner's manual for specific instructions for your vehicle.
