- Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheel with a wrench.
- Use a floor jack to lift the rear of the motorcycle off the ground.
- Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheel.
Step 2: Remove the brake drum
- Use a screwdriver to remove the cotter pin from the brake drum spindle.
- Remove the large nut on the end of the spindle to remove the brake drum.
Step 3: Remove the brake shoes
- Remove the two brake shoes by prying them off the brake plate.
Step 4: Inspect the brake shoes
- Inspect the brake shoes for wear. If the brake shoes are worn down to the metal backing, they will need to be replaced.
Step 5: Reassemble the brake assembly
- Install the new brake shoes onto the brake plate.
- Replace the large nut on the end of the spindle to secure the brake drum.
- Insert a new cotter pin into the hole on the end of the spindle.
Step 6: Reinstall the rear wheel
- Place the rear wheel back onto the motorcycle.
- Secure the rear wheel with the lug nuts.
- Lower the motorcycle off of the floor jack.
Step 7: Test the brakes
- Pump the rear brake lever several times to ensure that the brakes are working properly.
