How do you adjust the clutch on a 1987 pickup with 4 cylinder engine?

To adjust the clutch on a 1987 pickup with a 4-cylinder engine, you will need the following tools:

* A set of wrenches

* A screwdriver

* A jack and jack stands

* A clutch adjustment gauge

1. Park the truck on a level surface and turn off the engine.

2. Set the parking brake and chock the wheels.

3. Raise the front of the truck using the jack and jack stands.

4. Locate the clutch cable adjustment bolt on the transmission bell housing. It is usually located near the top of the bell housing and has a locknut on it.

5. Loosen the locknut on the clutch cable adjustment bolt.

6. Turn the clutch cable adjustment bolt clockwise to tighten the cable.

7. While turning the adjustment bolt, watch the clutch fork. The fork should move toward the engine.

8. Continue turning the adjustment bolt until the clutch fork is about 1/8 inch away from the clutch release bearing.

9. Tighten the locknut on the clutch cable adjustment bolt.

10. Lower the truck and test drive the vehicle. The clutch should now engage and disengage smoothly.

If the clutch still does not engage or disengage smoothly, you may need to replace the clutch cable or the clutch disc and pressure plate.
