How do you replace the reverse light switch on a Volvo 240?

To replace the reverse light switch on a Volvo 240, follow these steps:

1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.

Ensure the parking brake is engaged.

2. Crawl under the car and locate the reverse light switch.

It is typically mounted on the top of the transmission, near the rear of the engine.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the reverse light switch.

Press the small tab on the side of the connector and pull it straight off.

4. Use a wrench to loosen the mounting bolts for the reverse light switch.

There are typically two bolts that hold the switch in place.

5. Remove the old reverse light switch from the transmission.

Be careful not to drop the O-ring that seals the switch in place.

6. Apply a small amount of RTV sealant to the new O-ring.

This will help to prevent leaks.

7. Screw the new reverse light switch into the transmission.

Make sure the wiring points upwards for easy reconnection in a future maintenance effort! Tighten the mounting bolts until they are snug.

8. Reconnect the electrical connector to the reverse light switch.

Press the connector firmly into place until you hear a click.

9. Crawl back out from under the car and start the engine.

Test the reverse lights to make sure they are working.
