1. Prepare the vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Allow the vehicle to cool down if it has been running recently.
2. Raise the vehicle: Use a car jack and jack stands to safely lift the front end of the vehicle. Ensure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Locate the oil drain plug: Underneath the vehicle, locate the oil drain plug on the transmission. Place an oil drain pan below the plug to catch any draining fluid.
4. Drain the transmission fluid: Use a wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Allow all of the transmission fluid to drain into the pan.
5. Remove the oil pan: Once the fluid has drained, use a pry bar or flat-head screwdriver to pry the oil pan loose. Be careful not to damage the oil pan gasket.
6. Remove the old oil seal: Inside the oil pan, locate the old oil seal. Use a seal puller to carefully remove the oil seal from its housing.
7. Clean the oil pan: Clean the oil pan and the mating surface on the transmission using a degreaser and a lint-free cloth. Ensure all dirt and debris are removed.
8. Install the new oil seal: Apply a thin layer of RTV silicone sealant around the outer edge of the new oil seal. Carefully press the new oil seal into its housing, making sure it is seated properly.
9. Replace the oil pan gasket: Apply a thin layer of RTV silicone sealant to the new oil pan gasket. Carefully position the gasket and install the oil pan back into place. Tighten the oil pan bolts securely.
10. Refill the transmission fluid: Refill the transmission with the specified type and amount of transmission oil. Check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick and add more fluid if necessary.
11. Test the transmission: Start the vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. Shift through the gear positions several times to circulate the transmission fluid. Check for any leaks from the oil seal area.
12. Lower the vehicle: Use the car jack to safely lower the vehicle back to the ground.
13. Dispose of old fluids and materials: Properly dispose of the old transmission fluid and oil seal according to local environmental regulations.
14. Road test: Take the vehicle for a short road test to ensure that the transmission is shifting smoothly and there are no leaks.
