How do windscreen washers on vw beetle work?

Windscreen Washer System

The windscreen washer system consists of a reservoir, an electric pump, non-return valves, and washer jets. The reservoir is located in the right-hand side of the engine compartment. The electric pump is mounted on the bottom of the reservoir. The non-return valves are located in the washer jets. The washer jets are located on the bonnet.

When the windscreen washer switch is operated, the electric pump draws washer fluid from the reservoir and pumps it through the non-return valves to the washer jets. The washer jets spray the washer fluid onto the windscreen.

Operation

To operate the windscreen washers, pull the windscreen washer stalk towards you. The windscreen washers will operate for as long as the stalk is held in this position.

Note: The windscreen washers will not operate if the washer fluid reservoir is empty.
