How do you remove front bumper on a golf 1?

Removing the Front Bumper on a Volkswagen Golf 1

Tools and materials:

* Phillips screwdriver

* Flathead screwdriver

* Box wrench or ratchet and socket set

* Torx bit set (if equipped)

* Flashlight

* Jack and jack stands (if necessary)

* Safety glasses

Instructions:

1. Park your Golf 1 on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Open the hood and disconnect the battery negative terminal. Locate the negative terminal on your Golf’s battery and ensure it’s marked with a “negative” sign or the symbol “-.” Use the appropriate-sized wrench to loosen and remove the negative terminal cable from the battery’s negative terminal post.

3. Jack up the front of your Golf and support it on jack stands. Refer to your Golf’s owner’s manual for the proper jacking points.

4. Locate the front bumper bolts and screws.

- There should be two bolts located at the bottom center of the bumper.

- On each side of the vehicle, you should find two screws located in the wheel wells.

5. Remove the front bumper bolts and screws.

- Use the appropriate-sized wrench or socket to remove the bolts at the bottom center of the bumper.

- Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws in the wheel wells.

6. Remove the two brackets that hold the bumper to the fenders.

- You can find the brackets by reaching inside the wheel wells near the front of your Golf.

- Use the flat head screwdriver to pry off the plastic caps that cover the bracket nuts.

- Use the appropriate-sized wrench or socket to remove the bracket nuts and then gently pull the front bumper off the vehicle.

7. Detach the remaining electrical connectors and vacuum lines from the bumper.

8. Remove the front bumper from the car.

- You may have to gently pull and wiggle it back and forth to get it to come off.

To reinstall the front bumper, follow the instructions in reverse order.
