Nissan Certified Pre-Owned Program Review

If you are considering a used Nissan as your next vehicle, you should look at the Nissan certified pre-owned (CPO) program. Factory backed, the Nissan Certified program provides some peace of mind that trained technicians have inspected these cars and made any needed repairs. Moreover, Nissan also expands its powertrain-warranty coverage for 2 years or 20,000 miles. Nissan tosses in a few other CPO perks, too. All things considered, a CPO Nissan will cost less than the same model new. At the same time, it delivers a degree of extra factory support not found in a regular Nissan used car.

What We Like

Long powertrain warranty; special finance rates; free Carfax and SiriusXM trial; fully transferable

What We Don’t

No additional CPO bumper-to-bumper warranty; high deductible for the powertrain coverage

Program Specifics

Nissan’s certified program is available on used Nissan models up to 6 years old and with less than 80,000 miles on the odometer. The CPO program provides a full 7-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, extending Nissan’s standard powertrain warranty of 5 years or 60,000 miles by 2 years or up to 40,000 total miles. There’s a $100 deductible for covered repairs.

Nissan’s Certified warranty offers a few other benefits, as well. It’s fully transferable to the next owner, and it comes with a free Carfax report. It also includes 24-hour roadside assistance (as most CPO programs do), no deductible for roadside visits. There’s also a free 3-month trial of SiriusXM radio for vehicles equipped with the feature. Other perks include rental reimbursement of $35 per day for up to 5 days during covered repairs, as well as trip interruption benefits if covered repairs occur more than 100 miles from home.

But Nissan’s certified pre-owned program is good but not at the head of the class. Although the added CPO powertrain protection and added benefits are impressive, Nissan doesn’t offer any additional bumper-to-bumper coverage beyond whatever might remain of the original new-car warranty of 36 months or 36,000 miles. That means common mechanical failures of components like the air conditioner or audio system won’t be covered once the original new-car warranty expires.
