Chrysler Certified Pre-Owned Program

If you have a used Chrysler in your sights, you should consider a car or minivan in the Chrysler certified pre-owned (CPO) program. These are late-model vehicles with a clean vehicle history report. They also must pass a comprehensive inspection by a factory-trained technician. In addition to a short bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, Chrysler CPO also has a relatively long powertrain warranty. The benefits of Chrysler certified preowned don’t stop there. Chrysler provides a few added-value perks like 24-hour roadside assistance and special factory-sponsored financing. When you consider the entire CPO package, there is good reason to take a look at CPO Chryslers.

What We Like

Better-than-average powertrain coverage; a rental-car allowance for covered repairs

What We Don’t

High deductible for covered repairs; short bumper-to-bumper limited warranty

Program Specifics

Only the best-of-the-best qualify for Chrysler certified pre-owned. These are cars and minivans no more than 5 years old with fewer than 75,000 miles on the odometer. A factory-trained technician then performs a 125-point inspection of each CPO-candidate Chrysler. Any issues uncovered during the inspection are repaired or replaced using factory parts. Finally, to reach CPO status, these cars and minivans must have a clean vehicle history report.

Every CPO Chrysler comes with a 3-month or 3,000-mile additional bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. It kicks in when the original 3-year or 36,000-mile original new-car warranty expires. If that new-car warranty is already expired, the CPO warranty begins on the sale date of the CPO Chrysler. Chrysler covers every new model with a 5-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. For Chrysler certified vehicles, Chrysler extends the time period for another 2 years for a total of 7 years or 100,000 miles from the original new-car purchase date.

There are, however, a couple of glaring drawbacks to the CPO warranties. First, the length of the Chrysler Certified Pre-Owned bumper-to-bumper limited warranty is not up to industry standards. Competitors’ CPO programs provide at least 1 year or 12,000 miles of coverage. Some offer longer periods than that. The second drawback is, Chrysler requires a $100 deductible for each covered repair. Most competitors either don’t charge a deductible or only charge $50 per covered repair.

Chrysler does offer a few value-added extras like a free vehicle history report, a $35 per day rental-car allowance for up to five days during covered repairs, special financing, and a 3-month satellite-radio subscription. CPO coverage is fully transferable to another private individual.

Although we are disappointed with the short duration of the 3-month or 3,000-mile coverage of the CPO bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, the powertrain coverage is longer than that of most competitors. Also, those $100 deductible payments could really begin to add up. Weighing the powertrain coverage and the added-value benefits, though, make Chrysler certified pre-owned worth looking into on your hunt for a used Chrysler. Find certified pre-owned Chryslers.
