We think buying a Subaru certified pre-owned car or SUV makes sense. Subaru boasts that 97 percent of its vehicles sold in the past 10 years are still on the road. This means, used Subaru models generally are a smart option. CPO Subarus represent the top tier of used Subarus. They are no more than 5 years old and have undergone a 152-point inspection by a factory-trained technician. Subaru also provides its CPO cars and SUVs with a factory-backed 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Several added-value benefits are included, as well. If you are shopping used Subarus, we suggest you take a little extra time to research CPO models.
Long powertrain warranty; no deductible for covered repairs; fully transferable
No CPO bumper-to-bumper limited warranty
When you distill it down, CPO programs are really only as good as their added warranty coverage. Here the Subaru CPO program both shines and stalls. Every brand-new Subaru sold comes with a 5-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. A CPO Subaru carries an additional 2 years or 40,000 miles of powertrain coverage. It kicks in when the original powertrain warranty expires. The result is an impressive 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. This warranty covers those really expensive-to-fix components, like the engine and transmission. Coverage in both years and miles begins on the original new-car sale date. Covered repairs don’t require a deductible. Sadly, Subaru’s CPO program doesn’t extend the original 3-year or 36,000-mile new-car limited warranty. To do so costs extra.
Subaru does offer two added-cost CPO warranties extending limited-warranty coverage terms equal to that of the 7-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. One option is more expensive and more comprehensive than the other. Subaru also offers CPO buyers a couple of scheduled maintenance plans, also at an added cost.
If Subaru certifies a model, you know that it is less than 5 years old with fewer than 80,000 miles on the odometer. As the inspection takes place, any required repairs are made by a factory-trained technician using original factory parts.
CPO also comes with an array of extra perks like a free vehicle history report. Additionally, 24-hour roadside assistance, rental-car allowance during covered repairs, a 12-month subscription to Subaru Starlink Safety Plus package, and a 3-month satellite-radio subscription are included.
Granted, Subaru doesn’t follow industry norms in not providing any sort of CPO bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, but, otherwise, its CPO program is well worth checking out. Find a certified pre-owned Subaru for sale.
