There are many reasons for buying used rather than new when acquiring your next car. Meeting a budget probably tops that list. When looking at Lexus models, shopping Lexus certified pre-owned (CPO) is the ideal compromise. It saves some money buying used while providing the peace of mind of buying new. We consider the Lexus CPO program to be one of the better among luxury brands.
Lexus calls its CPO plan L/Certified. L/Certified cars are no more than 6 years old, have passed a 161-point inspection by a factory-trained technician, and provide an impressive factory-backed warranty. This, though, is just the beginning of what L/Certified models offer.

CPO coverage is not transferrable to the next owner
Every L/Certified vehicle for sale is no more than 6 years old, has fewer than 70,000 miles on the odometer, and passed a 161-point inspection by a certified Lexus technician. Any issues discovered during that inspection are fixed using factory parts.
When you purchase an L/Certified vehicle, you’re guaranteed at least two years of warranty coverage. Unlike most such programs, there is no mileage limit. If the L/Certified vehicle you purchase is still covered under its 4-year/50,000-mile limited new-car warranty, the extra two years of coverage doesn’t start until that original warranty has expired.
Other benefits of the Lexus warranty include 24-hour roadside assistance, a complimentary loaner car when you’re in for service, and Trip Interruption coverage. Trip Interruption reimburses for meals, a rental car, and lodging for a maximum of three nights (up to $200 a night). It is available if you find yourself stranded more than 100 miles from home. The Lexus CPO program also provides rental car reimbursement for up to five days at $50 a day.
The only drawback in the Lexus CPO program is that it isn’t transferrable to another owner if you decide to sell the car. Otherwise, L/Certified checks all the boxes for CPO programs. Look for a CPO Lexus near you.
