Thanks to chrissy, a Nissan dealer and active member of the German forum Going Electric we now know that the electric van from Nissan will finally get its range increased in the spring of next year. According to chrissy, since yesterday it’s no longer possible to order the current model year (MY), because the new one with better range is coming soon.
It’s also likely that the 24 kWh battery supply from AESC has finally ended…
Currently, the Nissan e-NV200 still has the same 24 kWh battery pack made by AESC that the first generation Nissan Leaf and Renault Kangoo ZE also had.
The interesting thing is that now the Renault Kangoo ZE has a 33 kWh battery pack made with LG Chem battery cells, while both Nissan Leaf and Nissan e-NV200 maintain AESC as the battery cell supplier and will have the battery pack capacity boosted to 40 kWh. This shows us that the AESC battery cells are more energy dense than the ones made by LG Chem.
Furthermore, the 40 kWh battery means that the Nissan e-NV200 will get its current NEDC range increased from 170 km (106 miles) to around 283 km (176 miles). As a curiosity, the more efficient 2018 Nissan Leaf will get 378 km (235 miles) of NEDC range from the same battery.
By having different versions maximized for cargo or passengers, the Nissan e-NV200 is great for businesses or families.

Nissan e-NV200 VAN
Unsurprisingly, it seems likely that we’ll see the new and improved Nissan e-NV200 on the roads sooner than the Volkswagen e-Crafter that we were shown last year…
Anyways, it’s still unknown if the Nissan e-NV200 will get the same treatment as the Nissan Leaf, by having a 60 kWh battery option – made by LG Chem – later down the road.
To sum up, I think that this kind of electric vans are very important to reduce inner-city pollution. The cargo version will appeal mostly to postal services, while the passenger version will be great for taxis. Finally, I hope that this electric van will also be available in the USA…
