How do you change the spark plugs in a 1997 Toyota Tacoma?

Tools and materials needed:

- Spark plug socket wrench

- Ratchet

- Extension bar

- Spark plug gap tool

- New spark plugs (4)

- Dielectric grease

Instructions

1. Locate the spark plugs. They are located on the top of the engine, near the front.

2. Check the spark plug gap: Remove the old spark plugs and use a spark plug gap tool to check the gap. The gap should be between 0.043 and 0.049 inches. If the gap is too small or too large, use the gap tool to adjust it.

3. Apply dielectric grease to the new spark plugs. This will help to prevent the plugs from seizing in the cylinder head.

4. Install the new spark plugs. Screw the spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand until they are finger-tight. Then use a spark plug socket wrench and ratchet to tighten them until they are snug.

5. Connect the spark plug wires. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs in the correct order. The firing order for a 1997 Toyota Tacoma is 1-3-4-2.

6. Start the engine and check for misfires. If you experience any misfires, double-check that the spark plugs are properly gapped and installed.
