How to Change the Battery on a 1998 Dodge Stratus

Tools and Materials Needed

* New battery (Group 51R)

* Battery terminal brush

* 10mm wrench

* Safety glasses

Instructions

1. Park your Stratus in a safe location and turn off the engine.

2. Pop the hood and locate the battery. It is located in the engine compartment on the passenger side.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This is the black cable with the "-" symbol. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the nut holding the cable to the battery terminal.

4. Disconnect the positive battery cable. This is the red cable with the "+" symbol. Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the nut holding the cable to the battery terminal.

5. Remove the old battery from the car. Be careful not to drop it on your feet or spill any battery acid.

6. Clean the battery terminals with a battery terminal brush. This will remove any corrosion that has built up on the terminals.

7. Install the new battery in the car. Make sure that the positive terminal is facing the correct direction and that the terminals are properly connected.

8. Reconnect the positive battery cable. Tighten the nut until it is snug.

9. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Tighten the nut until it is snug.

10. Close the hood of your Stratus and start the engine.
