How you line up dots on timing chain a Chevy 350?

Aligning the Timing Chain on a Chevy 350

The timing chain on a Chevy 350 engine is used to synchronize the rotation of the crankshaft and the camshaft. When the timing chain is not properly aligned, it can cause the engine to run poorly, or even cause damage to the engine.

To align the timing chain on a Chevy 350, you will need the following tools:

* A timing chain wrench

* A crankshaft pulley wrench

* A breaker bar

* A socket set

* A flat blade screwdriver

Instructions:

1. Remove the distributor cap.

2. Turn the crankshaft pulley until the piston in the number one cylinder is at the top of its compression stroke. This can be determined by inserting a flat blade screwdriver into the spark plug hole of the number one cylinder and turning the crankshaft pulley until the piston pushes the screwdriver out of the hole.

3. Align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the timing chain cover. The timing marks are usually a small dot or notch on the pulley and cover.

4. Install the timing chain wrench on the crankshaft pulley and loosen the bolt.

5. Use the breaker bar to rotate the camshaft clockwise until the timing marks on the camshaft gear and the timing chain cover align.

6. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt.

7. Install the distributor cap.

Your timing chain is now properly aligned.
