1. Jack up the vehicle and support it on jack stands.
2. Remove the engine oil drain plug and drain all of the oil.
3. Remove the starter on models that have the exhaust crossover pipe between the engine block and the transmission bell housing.
4. Remove the 2 bolts holding the oil filter housing to the engine block.
5. Clean the gasket surface on the oil filter housing and on the engine block.
6. Apply a thin layer of gasket sealer to the new gasket.
7. Install the new gasket and the oil filter housing.
8. Tighten the 2 bolts that hold the oil filter housing to the engine block.
9. Install the starter, if you had removed it.
10. Add 6 quarts of new engine oil to the engine.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to check for any leaks.
2005 and Newer Models
1. Remove the engine oil drain plug and drain all of the oil.
2. Remove the upper intake manifold.
3. On 3V models remove the vacuum pump bracket if it obstructs removal of the oil filter housing.
4. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor and move the wiring harness with sensor.
5. Remove the 4 bolts holding the oil filter housing to the engine block.
6. Clean the gasket surface on the oil filter housing and on the engine block.
7. Apply a thin layer of gasket sealer to the new gasket.
8. Install the new gasket and the oil filter housing.
9. Tighten the 4 bolts that hold the oil filter housing to the engine block.
10. Reconnect the oil pressure sensor making sure to add a copper crush washer to the threads of the sensor prior to installation.
11. Reconnect vacuum pump bracket if you had removed it.
12. Install the upper intake manifold.
13. Add 6 quarts of new engine oil to the engine.
14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to check for any leaks.
