- Gather the necessary tools, including a screwdriver, a key cylinder removal tool, and a replacement ignition key cylinder.
- Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical hazards.
2. Remove the Steering Column Cover:
- Locate the screws or clips holding the steering column cover in place and remove them.
- Carefully remove the cover to expose the ignition switch.
3. Detach the Ignition Cylinder:
- Insert the key cylinder removal tool into the ignition cylinder.
- Turn the tool clockwise until the cylinder releases and comes out of the switch.
- If the key cylinder is broken off inside, you might need to use a drill to remove the remaining part.
4. Remove the Ignition Switch:
- Locate the screws holding the ignition switch in place.
- Remove the screws and carefully remove the ignition switch.
5. Replace the Key Cylinder:
- Insert the new ignition key cylinder into the switch.
- Turn the cylinder counterclockwise until it locks into place.
6. Reconnect the Wires:
- Connect the wires to the ignition switch according to the wiring diagram.
- Ensure all wires are securely connected and properly insulated.
7. Reinstall the Ignition Switch:
- Place the ignition switch back into its original position.
- Secure the switch with the screws you removed earlier.
8. Test the Ignition:
- Reconnect the battery.
- Insert the key into the new ignition cylinder and turn it to see if the switch works correctly.
9. Reinstall the Steering Column Cover:
- Replace the steering column cover and secure it with the screws or clips you removed earlier.
10. Test Drive:
- Take the vehicle for a short test drive to ensure the ignition switch functions properly.
