Parts
* Alternator (replaces part number F5AZ-10300-BA)
* Serpentine belt (replaces part number F6AZ-8620-C)
* Battery cable (positive) (optional)
Instructions
1. Disconnect the battery. The battery is located in the trunk of your car. To disconnect it, loosen the negative terminal (the black cable) first, and then loosen the positive terminal (the red cable).
2. Remove the alternator belt. The alternator belt is the long, black belt that runs from the alternator to the crankshaft pulley. To remove it, loosen the idler pulley bolt located near the top of the alternator, and then pry the belt off of the pulleys with a pry bar.
3. Unbolt the alternator. There are three bolts that hold the alternator in place. The top bolt is located on the back of the alternator, and the other two are located on the bottom of the alternator. To remove these bolts, you may need to use an extension on your ratchet.
4. Remove the alternator from the car. Once you have removed the three bolts, you can lift the alternator out of the car by grabbing it by the top mounting bracket.
5. Remove the wiring from the alternator. There are two wires that connect to the alternator. The red wire is the positive terminal, and the black wire is the negative terminal. To remove the wires, simply unscrew the nuts holding the wires in place, and then pull the wires off of the terminals.
6. Install the new alternator. To install the new alternator, simply reverse the steps that you took to remove the old alternator. Be sure to tighten the bolts securely, and make sure to reconnect the wires to the terminals correctly.
7. Install the new serpentine belt. To install the new serpentine belt, simply reverse the steps that you took to remove the old serpentine belt. Be sure to tighten the idler pulley bolt securely.
8. Reconnect the battery. To reconnect the battery, simply reverse the steps that you took to disconnect it. Be sure to tighten the terminal nuts securely.
9. Test the alternator. To test the alternator, start your car and let it run for a few minutes. Then, turn on the headlights and the air conditioner. If the alternator is working properly, the voltage reading on your multimeter should be between 13.8 and 14.4 volts.
