Materials Needed
- New headlight bulb (H4)
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Socket wrench set
- Flashlight
1. Open the Hood: Release the hood latch inside your car and lift the hood. Locate the prop rod and secure the hood in the open position.
2. Locate the Headlight Assembly: The headlight assembly on the LS 400 is located behind the front grille. Look for a plastic cover held in place by several Phillips-head screws.
3. Remove the Headlight Cover: Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws holding the plastic cover in place. Carefully remove the cover and set it aside.
4. Remove the Headlight Bulb Connector: Once the cover is removed, you'll see the back of the headlight assembly with the bulb connector. Locate the electrical connector attached to the headlight bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and unplug it from the bulb.
5. Remove the Old Headlight Bulb: Grab the old headlight bulb by its base and turn it counterclockwise to unlock it from the headlight housing. Remove the bulb and discard it properly.
6. Install the New Headlight Bulb: Take the new headlight bulb (H4) and insert it into the headlight housing. Turn it clockwise until it locks securely in place.
7. Reconnect the Headlight Bulb Connector: Reconnect the electrical connector you unplugged earlier to the new bulb. Make sure the connector is securely attached.
8. Replace the Headlight Cover: Place the plastic cover back onto the headlight assembly and secure it with the Phillips-head screws you removed earlier. Tighten the screws to hold the cover in place.
9. Test the Headlights: Close the hood and turn on your headlights. Check if both headlights are working properly. If they are, you have successfully replaced the headlight bulb.
NOTE: If you're replacing the bulb on the driver's side, you may need to remove the battery for easier access to the headlight assembly. Consult the vehicle's repair manual or check with a professional if you're not confident in performing this step.
