Volkswagen e-Golf is now cheaper

In Germany the price of the Volkswagen e-Golf dropped by 4.000 euros from 35.900 to 31.900 euros, while in the UK, the price dropped by 2.765 pounds from 33.840 to 31.075 pounds (34.313 euros). These are prices before government subsidies.

So what do you get with the 2019 Volkswagen e-Golf?

  • Motor: 100 kW
  • Battery: 35,8 kWh made with Samsung SDI battery cells (without TMS)
  • Range: 231 km (144 miles) in WLTP and 201 km (125 miles) in EPA
  • On-board charger: 7,2 kW
  • Fast charging rate: 40 kW

The main responsible for this price drop is obviously the upcoming Volkswagen ID.3, which is just a few days away to be officially unveiled at Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA). The Volkswagen ID.3 marks the adoption of the new MEB platform, which was developed exclusively for BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles).

With the Volkswagen ID.3 you get a lot more…

Volkswagen ID.3 Standard Range

  • Motor: 100 kW
  • Battery: 45 kWh (with TMS)
  • Range: 330 km (205 miles) in WLTP
  • On-board charger: 7,4 kW
  • Fast charging rate: 50 kW

Volkswagen ID.3 Mid Range

  • Motor: 150 kW
  • Battery: 58 kWh (with TMS)
  • Range: 420 km (261 miles) in WLTP
  • On-board charger: 11 kW
  • Fast charging rate: 100 kW

Volkswagen ID.3 Long Range

  • Motor: 200 kW
  • Battery: 77 kWh (with TMS)
  • Range: 550 km (342 miles) in WLTP
  • On-board charger: 11 kW
  • Fast charging rate: 125 kW

And, as the base price for the ID.3 series production model will be below the EUR 30,000 mark in Germany, this means it will be an electric vehicle for everyone. Another highlight with the Group’s first electric vehicle is the fact that the ID.3 will be carbon-neutral over its service life if buyers consistently charge their vehicles using renewable energy.

There is no shortage of driving pleasure either; putting your foot down on the ID.3 1ST will see you accelerate rapidly, all thanks to its rear-wheel drive and 150 kW / 204 PS engine performance. Production of the ID.3 is due to start as planned at the end of 2019. The first vehicles are due to arrive by mid-2020.

If you can wait until mid-2020 you can buy a much better electric car with more range, faster charging and a battery protected by a TMS (Thermal Management System). Nonetheless, if you need an electric car now the Volkswagen e-Golf is alright too.
