Tools and Materials Needed:
1. Replacement brake light bulb (12V, 21W)
2. Phillips head screwdriver
Instructions:
1. Open the Rear Hatch: Locate the button or lever to open the rear hatch on your Lexus RX300. Pull it up or press it to release the hatch and allow access to the taillights.
2. Locate the Taillight Assembly: Identify the taillight assembly that contains the faulty brake light bulb. It's usually on the side where you need to replace the bulb.
3. Remove the Taillight Assembly: Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws holding the taillight assembly in place. Be careful not to drop the screws or lose them.
4. Access the Brake Light Bulb Socket: Once you remove the taillight assembly, you'll see the brake light bulb socket inside the housing. It may be held in place by a twist-and-lock mechanism or a simple push-and-turn method.
5. Remove the Old Brake Light Bulb: Gently twist or turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from its socket. Be cautious as the bulb may be hot if the brakes were recently used.
6. Install the New Brake Light Bulb: Insert the new brake light bulb into the socket. Make sure to turn it clockwise or push and twist it into place securely to ensure proper contact.
7. Reattach the Taillight Assembly: Reposition the taillight assembly into its original position and secure it back with the screws you removed earlier. Tighten them snugly to hold the assembly in place.
8. Test the Brake Light: Close the rear hatch and ask someone to press the brake pedal while you visually inspect the brake light to ensure it's working properly.
9. Repeat for the Other Side (if necessary): If both brake lights need replacement, repeat the process on the other side of the vehicle.
Remember, if you encounter any difficulties or have concerns during the replacement process, it's always a good idea to consult your vehicle's owner's manual or seek assistance from a professional mechanic.
