Gather the necessary tools and materials:
- Trunk lifts that are compatible with your Ford Contour
- Socket set
- Wrench set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
- Tape measure
- Scissors
Note: It's recommended to have someone assist you during the installation process.
1. Measure and Cut:
- Begin by measuring the length needed for the trunk lifts. Extend the trunk halfway and measure from the top of the trunk to the desired attachment point on the inside of the trunk lid.
- Cut the trunk lifts to the measured length using scissors.
2. Remove the Trunk Liner:
- Open the trunk and locate the trunk liner.
- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws or plastic fasteners holding the trunk liner in place.
- Carefully remove the trunk liner and set it aside.
3. Attach the Brackets:
- Locate the mounting points on the inside of the trunk lid. These are usually pre-drilled holes or designated areas for attaching trunk lifts.
- Position the brackets that came with the trunk lift kit over the mounting points.
- Use a socket wrench to securely fasten the brackets to the mounting points.
4. Attach the Trunk Lifts:
- Extend the trunk lifts and align them with the attachment points on the brackets.
- Use the provided bolts and washers to secure the trunk lifts to the brackets.
- Tighten the bolts until the trunk lifts are firmly in place.
5. Route the Cables:
- Route the cables of the trunk lifts carefully to avoid obstacles and ensure smooth operation.
- Use zip ties or cable clips to secure the cables and prevent them from tangling or interfering with other trunk components.
6. Test the Lifts:
- Close and open the trunk to test the operation of the trunk lifts.
- Make sure the lifts extend and retract smoothly and hold the trunk lid open securely.
7. Reattach the Trunk Liner:
- Replace the trunk liner and secure it using the screws or plastic fasteners you removed earlier.
Note: Some trunk lift kits may come with additional instructions specific to your vehicle. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper installation and safety precautions.
